My morning routine for productive and creative work

I didn’t know this when I was younger, but my brain actually really like routine. It turns out that routine aids our mental health, it helps us cope with change, form healthy habits, and reduce our stress levels.

Without getting too new agey, I will tell you how I use yoga and meditation to focus my mind and get into the right mindset to have an amazing day full of productivity and creativity. Because when I have been really productive I have usually been really creative, not counting admin work.


The first thing I do in the mornings, is probably strange for many, but it is that I check out my social media channels as soon as my alarm rings. It’s not because I’m addicted to social media, at least not only, but it’s also to trick my brain awake. I would love to sleep in, and people who know me, know that I can easily sleep for 10+ hours. But if I check social media the light from my phone and the mental stimulus wakes me up, so I don’t hit the snooze button and settle back down under my duvet.

Drink water

The second thing I do is to drink down a big glass of water. You sweat out about half a litre of water during sleep, and besides that it will help you keep focused during the day if you are properly hydrated.

Gentle yoga

The third thing I do, and this is probably the most important thing for my mindset, is a gentle morning yoga routine. I don’t do a hard session to become a super human or prove anything to myself or others. T his time is for me, self care to gently wake up my body and focus my mind. I set an intention for the day, and it will stay with me for the rest of the day.

Ahhh coffee

Now that all the stiffness is chased from my body, I will make a cup of instant coffee with 3 sweeteners and milk. I don’t care, I like it sweet. Then I am ready to start working.
