Do you ever find it hard to focus?

I do. In general I have a morning routine, and I don’t like it when it’s disturbed, because I feel like it’s much harder to be focused and productive if I haven’t been through my sequence of events. You can read about my morning routine here.

Let’s get back to focus.

My mind wanders. A lot. And that’s great for days where I can relax and follow my thoughts. But most days I have to work, I have deadlines and projects to finish. If I find it hard to focus, I try to center myself.

Here are 4 ways to find your focus:

I drink a glass (or more) of water

I don’t nearly drink enough water as it is, but usually I try to stay hydrated, amongst other things by always having a bottle of water with me on my desk. I listen to calming music

There are many options to listen to music, and it doesn’t really matter if you use Spotify, Tidal, Google Music, YouTube or something else. Personally, being a big fan of YouTube, I like to go to one of the many channels such as Quiet Quest. However, I am aware that it is harder on the bandwidth than a streaming service.

I meditate

I usually  just find something random on YouTube. I particularly like, and find myself going back to: “Deepak Chopra’s Go-To 3-Minute Meditation To Stay Focused.” It’s a good, quick way to resettle yourself, and I also deeply enjoy Deepak’s voice. Of course you can choose another meditation session that’s longer, shorter, or in a different style.

I move my body

Sometimes by removing the focus from the fact that I can’t focus, will help me still my mind and sort my thoughts. If you go for a short (or long, depending on your preferences) walk it will not only make your body feel revitalised, it will also do lots of great things for your brain. In one small study, kids’ brain scans showed more brain activity after a brisk walk, specifically in the areas of the brain responsible for focus and attention. More about the benefits of walking.
